The Art of SEO
By: Peter Arkwright

Keeping your website optimised is crucial for any online business these days, most people seem to think all they need to do is sort out their meta tags, spray a few keywords about and hey presto! Others think they can use spam techniques or available software packages. The truth is obviously very different search engines have become wise to most black hat techniques. There are many ways to optimise a website, listed below are the things I do and the amount of time I spend on each task.

1. Write a small unique on theme article entering it onto my website ? 1 hour
2. Copy relevant on theme articles from available sources and upload these to my site- ? hour.
3. Post on a few on theme forums. 1/2 hour
4. Write a few emails to similar businesses requesting a reciprocal link ? ? hour
5. List my site on the free directories/search engines, this is a good place to start is http://www.submithelper.com/User/User_Directory.aspx - 1- hour
6. Put an article on my business news section- 10 mins
7. Put an entry in my blog. - ? Hour.
8. Add links in my resources section ? 45 mins
9. I also add my monthly newsletters to the site.

As you can see I put in approx 5 hours per day on optimising my site, by constantly working at these things in the past 3 months I have now started to see a good presence on the major search engines. I am however aware it will take much more hard work over a sustained period of time.

The main lesson I have learned during my time as a website owner is.

1. Use a designer who comes recommended my personal recommendation would be Dan at http://www.clarity-media.co.uk
2. Prior to starting discuss at length the project with your designer, a good designer will give you as much help as you need.
3. Try not to rush the project, try and get it right the first time.
4. Set out the website so you can add unique content and links this can be done by having article, blogs, news sections.

I hope this article is of some help to website owners or potential owners.
